I am an amateur artist, working mainly in acrylics. Since retiring from my full time employment in Children’s Services for a London local authority, I have been able to spend more time painting and drawing, on my own and with others. I am an active member of two local art groups, and really enjoy painting alongside other people. I exhibit my work several times through the year at Hall Place and other venues in Bexley. I also help to organise an annual exhibition at St Peter’s Church in Hextable, to showcase and sell the work of the Swanley and District Art Society. Recently we were pleased to be invited to hang our work in the café at the church - Next Door Hextable.
I love to paint favourite places, people and things – I sometimes paint outdoors in the landscape, or I take photos and work from them in my small garden studio. I love aspects of nature, especially ancient trees. I like to imagine what they have witnessed over the centuries. I find that art is a wonderful way to create memories.
I use strong colours and enjoy trying different ways of mark making – recently I have been experimenting with abstract ideas. I make my own collage papers using various techniques, including printing with plants and flowers from my garden. These are assembled into compositions that are pleasing to me. I am passionate about my artwork, and love talking about painting to others. I have twice been a ‘Wildcard’ on Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year – a wonderful experience!
I live in St David’s Road just a few doors away from Beams, so I am very aware of the charity and the marvellous work that they do with families. I am pleased to be involved with ‘Inspired Expressions’ and wish them every success with the auction.
