Well, I made it! This for me is coming up to year 4 post cancer diagnosis. Some kind of magick and miracle has got me here. I'm so very grateful, which leads me to why I wanted to do something special, something I never thought I'd do again. But can.
As you know, my children are my life. And in addition to cancer and loosing Dad to a brain tumour we've had some challenges that have needed navigating. With the experience of being a Dad to a child with Autism I can vouch for the extra time, efforts, and obstacles that take energy from our family and how difficult it can be to navigate challenges. It's not always easy. Choosing to run for the charity Beams is a way for me to maybe help others out, who need the services and support they offer families across Kent with disabled children.
At one point I never thought I'd make the first Christmas, but I did. I lost my fitness, my ability to exercise and my mojo. I missed my run adventures and felt forever changed. But, with monthly immunotherapy, the subsequent removal of the kidney and tumour, and shrinking of the secondaries I've been on a bumpy but gradual return to some semblance of a normal life. And the most awesome thing is - I can run again! So, this last couple of months I've started to build up my runs, steady, slow progress. And proud to say I've made it back to 5k Park Runs. Honestly, I never thought that would happen, but it has. I'm a lucky sod! Definitely counting my blessings.
Call me mad, but Catherine (my ever encouraging wife) spotted a request for runners to join Team Beams and run a half marathon. So, here I am, signed up and ready to give this a go. 13.1 miles through the heart of London, 12th April 2026.
So please help me to raise some donations for a very worthy cause, Beams.
Thank you.
